ABOUT THE DISTRICT
Lakewood City School District:
Providing Quality Education
for the 21st Century

The Lakewood City School District is an award-winning public school district with excellence in academics, the arts, sports and community service, all in a city named "The Best Place to Raise Kids" in Ohio by BusinessWeek.com. Students walk to neighborhood schools and enjoy a wide variety of programming to meet educational needs. While academic achievement is a top priority, the district also looks to create opportunity-rich environments that allow our students to explore beyond the classroom walls. Partnerships with local colleges and universities, a Digital Academy, West Shore Career-Technical District, and our Community Recreation and Education Department provide many educational options for students and families.
This is an exciting time for the 6,000 student district: four new elementary schools and two new middle schools are now open, and the western half of Lakewood High School has been totally renovated, completing Phase I and Phase II of a three-phase districtwide building program. We are now a district of seven K-5 elementary schools, two middle schools (6-8 grades), one high school and one alternative school. We hope to complete the work with our remaining schools in the next three years. In short, Lakewood Schools provide the best school facilities and the best technological support for teaching and learning that can be found in our area.
MISSION STATEMENT:
In partnership with our families and community, Lakewood City Schools will develop responsible citizens, who are critical and creative thinkers, committed to lifelong learning, invested in a diverse society, and prepared for technological and global opportunities.
