JOIN BOARD & PTA FOR ANNUAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL SEPT. 2

Join the Lakewood Council of PTAs and the Lakewood Board of Education members at the annual back-to-school Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 6:15-7 pm in the Harding Middle School Cafetorium. The Board members will be dishing out the scoops with plenty of sundae fixins’ as well. A great way to kick off the school year and a chance to get to know your elected Board members!

NOTIFICATION OF STUDENT DATA RELEASE

A U.S. District Court has ordered that 2013-2014 school year records from the Ohio Department of Education’s student record system be turned over to Disability Rights Ohio as part of an ongoing lawsuit. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, families of students whose data will be released must be notified and given the opportunity to object. A copy of the notice – which includes instructions on how parents may object to the data release – can be found here. The court must receive objections no later than Sept. 12.


NEXT ROUND OF ARCHITECT MEETINGS SET

Dates for the next round of architect meetings for the three elementary schools involved in the final phase of construction have been set. Rodwell King of GPD Group will present preliminary footprint plans for the sites and field the community’s questions and comments. Meeting dates are as follows:

Sept. 9, 6:30 pm in the Grant Gym at St. James, 17415 Northwood Ave.
Sept. 10, 6 pm in the Lincoln Gym (old building), 15615 Clifton Blvd.
Sept. 16, 6:30 pm in the Roosevelt Gym at Franklin, 13465 Franklin Blvd.


LHS JUNIOR TONER NAMED TO NATIONAL HONOR ORCHESTRA

Lakewood High School junior cellist James Toner has been selected to perform with the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Honor Orchestra, which will perform in late October in Nashville, Tenn. Four other students have been named to the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra as well.


RANGER MARCHING BAND FEATURED ON WEWS-CH. 5

WEWS-Channel 5's prime time high school football special that aired Aug. 27 featured a segment on marching bands and highlighted our Lakewood Ranger Marching Band. See below for a great glimpse at what our band is all about.

 


ADMINISTRATORS, STAFF STEP UP TO ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

Superintendent Jeff Patterson and members of his administrative Cabinet accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge from the Lakewood Teachers Association (bottom video) on Aug. 26. Patterson broadened the challenge by asking the entire Central Office staff for donations to ALS and $1,500 was raised in a day. Click  here for some great photos, too.
